Ergonomics and Training
The International Ergonomics Association defines ergonomics as:
Ergonomics (or human factors) is the scientific discipline concerned with the understanding of interactions among humans and other elements of a system, and the profession that applies theory, principles, data and methods to design in order to optimize human well-being and overall system performance.
The aim of our services is to increase the health and safety of your work force and improve productivity. We prevent the occurrence of repetitive strain disorders and work related musculoskeletal injury through maximising the abilities of the work force through bespoke training, reorganisation and adaptations to the environment and equipment. During our assessments we gather a wealth of information relating to job tasks, existing processes, systems and all equipment. The information gathered is used to quantify the demands on the worker. Interventions aim to reduce hazardous activities, improve the well-being of the worker, their productivity and that of the work place as a whole. As specialist physiotherapists and ergonomists this is where our expertise lies. Human factors and ergonomics are concerned with the ‘fit’ between the user, equipment and their environments. It takes account of the user’s capabilities and limitations in seeking to ensure that tasks, functions, information and the environment suit each user.
Ergonomists consider the job tasks completed, work processes, systems, environmental factors, interaction with equipment, interfaces and colleagues. An ergonomist adopts a holistic approach to their assessments, taking into account not only the physiological factors but also the psychological and social factors. The information gathered is used to quantify the demands on the worker. Interventions aim to reduce hazardous activities, improve the well-being of the worker, their productivity and that of the work place as a whole.
We have a wealth of experience in a huge variety of settings. We have provided solutions for staff in schools, transport and delivery drivers as well as industrial processes. Our solutions are often focused on training as we know that incorrect use of even the most sophisticated equipment will lead to injury. As a result we often do not need to make costly environmental changes. We will always provide a range of solutions, from short to long term, so that you can determine which options suit you best and can be worked into your business plan.
