Pilates and Yoga

Pilates and Yoga are disciplines which compliment physiotherapy treatment as they both work to strengthen core muscles therefore improving posture.
Yoga and Pilates can be combined for maximum musculoskeletal improvement.

Yoga : The word ‘yoga' means union in Sanskirt and is bases on an ancient practice and discipline which seeks to unite the body and mind to create harmony between mind, body and spirit. Yoga accompanies physiotherapy well as the main focus is the correct alignment of the body - which improves posture and lowers the risk of suffering from back pain.

Yoga poses will help the body become more flexible, which in time will strength the muscles. Yoga is suitable for all ages regardless of your fitness ability,'

Pilates : Pilates is named after its founder Joseph Pilates, who developed the practice in the early twentieth century.

The exercise is beneficial to physiotherapy treatment as it aims to strengthen the bodies muscles and also the exercise focuses on building ‘core strength' which supports good posture.

Pilates is a excellent alternative exercise for individuals who have suffered from an injury as they can continue to strengthen muscles and maintain fitness levels without performing strenuous exercise. Pilates can also be practiced at any age, regardless of fitness ability.

We believe that practicing one or a combination of these gentle exercises can improve your posture and/or be beneficial to a particular musculoskeletal problem.

We offer one to one classes in both Yoga and Pilates at our Gosforth clinic in our comfortable, modern, spacious treatment rooms.
