Whiplash
Whiplash occurs when the soft tissue in the spine is stretched and strained after the body is thrown in a sudden, forceful jerk.
Whiplash is an injury which most people would associate with road traffic accidents and although this is mainly the case, whip lash can also be caused by sports injuries, rollercoaster rides, assaults or falls.
Symptoms of Whiplash do not normally appear immediately after an incident has occurred it can take up to 12 hours, or in some cases symptoms could develop a few days after an accident. The main symptoms of whiplash are neck pain and stiffness, loss of movement in the neck, tenderness in the neck and headaches.
Other symptoms include:
- lower back pain
- tiredness
- dizziness
- difficulty swallowing
- pins and needles in the arms or hands.
