How could acupuncture help you?

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is one of the main forms of treatment in traditional Chinese medicine which is widely practiced and recognised in the West. It is believed that illness and pain are a result of an energy imbalance in the body, by inserting fine sterile acupuncture needles into certain points indicated it improves the energy flow and relieves pain.

Recent research has proven acupuncture to be an effective treatment of tension type headaches and chronic back pain. The National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) recommends acupuncture as a treatment of choice for these conditions.

Here at Physiotherapy Matters all our physiotherapists who practice acupuncture are members of the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapist and continually keep up to date with training and research.

We use acupuncture to treat a wide variety of painful illnesses such as:

  • sciatica
  • arthritis
  • back pain
  • tennis elbow
  • sports injuries
  • headaches and migraines

Does it hurt?

Acupuncture needles are very fine, often people say that they don’t feel the needle being inserted or it feels like a sharp scratch that last for a second. Acupuncture can be very relaxing, calming and an effective form of pain relief.
