You could benefit from Cingal\u00ae injection if you suffer with persistent knee osteoarthritis pain which has not responded to physiotherapy intervention. How do Cingal\u00ae\u00a0Knee Injections work?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Cingal\u00ae is an injection combined with HA and Corticosteriod. The Hyaluronic Acid (HA) \u00a0is a form of Sodium Hyaluronate solution. The HA helps the knees with lubrication and cushioning. The Corticosteroid combination in the injection helps to reduce inflammation and pain in affected knee joint.<\/p>\n

What can I expect if I decide to have a knee injection with Cingal\u00ae?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

If Cingal \u00ae is your chose of injection after you had an assessment and discussion with your physiotherapist a single injection of Cingal \u00ae will be injected into the affected knee joint. You could experience pain relieve within 2 days after the injection due to the steroid component. The improvement stiffness with more pain relieve will improve gradually over a few weeks due to the HA combination. The reduction in symptoms can last 6-12 months depending on your activity levels and severity of arthritis.<\/p>\n

Once the effects of the first injection wear off, you can, if you choose, have another Cingal\u00ae injection, or a single HA injection.<\/p>\n

Are there any risks or side effects?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

In Cingal\u00ae clinical studies, a low number of patients experience minor side effects. However, with any injections there are low level risks of having an allergic reaction, infections, injection site pain, bruising and bleeding, redness, rash or swelling of the joint. You will be asked to stay in the waiting area of the clinic for 10-15 mins after the injection prior leaving. This is to make sure that you feel fine post-injection. there are low level risks of having an allergic reaction, infections, injection site pain, bruising and bleeding, redness, rash or swelling of the joint. Due to the steroid component of the injections, there can be systemic side effects. The skin at the injection site may become thinner or change colour. You may experience facial flushing. These reactions are normally mild and last for a very short period.<\/p>\n

Can I have a repeat injection?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Yes, once the effects of the first injection wear off, you can have a second injection. In recent studies patient received a second Cingal\u00ae 6 months after the first one. If you don\u2019t need the steroid combination during a second injection you can have a single HA injection.<\/p>\n

How soon until I feel results?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Each patient is deferent, but research shows that you could experience pain relief within the first week after your injection. It is proven that the results can last up to 6 months.<\/p>\n

Is it safe to have surgery after the injection?<\/strong><\/p>\n

If you are under a consultant or on a waiting list to have surgery on the injected joint in the next 6 months, please inform your physiotherapist about it.<\/p>\n
