What is Cingal\u00ae?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Cingal\u00ae is a combination injection of Hyaluronic Acid (HA) and Corticosteroid for the management of Osteoarthritis of the knee joint. It is a common and popular option for knee injections especially for patients with mild to moderate knee osteoarthritis. Hyaluronic Acid Injections (HA Injections) that contain Sodium Hyaluronate which is a viscosupplement and Corticosteriod is an anti-inflammatory medication. However, due to the HA component of the Cingal injections being the major component they have been approved as a medical device so does not require a prescription and has been deemed safe and effective for its intended use within knee joints in the UK.<\/p>\n

How do Cingal<\/strong>\u00ae <\/strong>Knee Injections work?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Cingal\u00ae is the first and only CE mark approved HA and Corticosteriod combination product. These injections are used to manage the symptoms of\u00a0osteoarthritis<\/a>\u00a0of the knee and help preserve the health of the joint. HA have been documented as a treatment options for the management of arthritis by Versus Arthritis\u00a0https:\/\/www.versusarthritis.org\/about-arthritis\/treatments\/drugs\/hyaluronan-injections\/<\/a> a solution containing Sodium Hyaluronate which is a form of Hyaluronic Acid. Corticosteroid injections have been used for many years as a quick and effective treatment for joint arthritis to reduce inflammation and pain.<\/p>\n

What can I expect if I decide to have a knee injection with Cingal\u00ae?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

If you decide to have treatment with Cingal\u00ae joint injections, it will be injected directly into the knee joint(s) affected by\u00a0osteoarthritis<\/a>. This will be a single injection into each effected knee joint. The Steroid component of the injection gives a rapid pain reduction within a couple of days, while the HA component works gradually over several weeks resulting in you feeling less pain and stiffness. The improvement in your symptoms should last for several months, usually up to 12 months but vary between 6-12 months depending on stage of arthritis and activity levels.<\/p>\n

Once the effects of the first course of injections wear off, you can, if you choose, have another Cingal\u00ae injection, or a single Ostenil<\/a>\u00ae injection which is the HA component without the steroid if there is minimal to no inflammation present.<\/p>\n

Are there any risks or side effects?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

In Cingal\u00ae clinical studies, a low number of patients experience minor side effects. However, with any injections there are low level risks of having an allergic reaction, infections, injection site pain, bruising and bleeding, redness, rash or swelling of the joint. Due to the steroid component of the injections there can be systemic side effects that are detailed in the patient information leaflet.<\/p>\n
