Acupuncture

Whether you’re suffering from pain or wish to explore the wider benefits of acupuncture treatment, we can provide treatment across all our clinics.

Our team of highly experienced physiotherapists offer acupuncture treatment.  The potential benefits of acupuncture are significant.

Acupuncture is one of the main forms of treatment in traditional Chinese medicine which is widely practised and recognised in the west. It is believed that illness and pain are a result of an energy imbalance in the body, by inserting fine sterile acupuncture needles into certain points indicated it improves the energy flow and relieves pain.

What conditions can Acupuncture help with?

Various scientific evidence exists which proves the benefits of acupuncture as a treatment for pain. Acupuncture can be beneficial in cases of:

As your treatment will be conducted by Chartered Physiotherapists, we will not only carry out a thorough assessment of your pain, we will also discuss with you the various treatment methods that are available.  That may include:

  • Manual Therapy
  • Exercise Therapy
  • Pilates
  • Electrotherapy
  • Joint and Soft Tissue Therapy

If pain is a significant problem, we can also discuss with your General Practitioner if any further tests or investigations are recommended.  We can also potentially arrange private investigations including Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and X-ray if this is appropriate.  (This will be provided at an additional cost provider at one of our partners).

What will happen in my treatment session?

You will be thoroughly assessed for your musculoskeletal complaint.  If deemed appropriate the physiotherapist will discuss the proposed treatment.

The physiotherapist will use single use, pre-sterilised, disposable needles of varying widths, lengths and materials. The Physiotherapist will determine the locations of the acupuncture points, based on the assessment. A number of needles may be used at each treatment and these are typically left in position for some 20-30 minutes before being removed.
