MSK Conditions seen in Primary Care

At Physiotherapy Matters we treat a wide range of MSK conditions for age 18 year and over. These include:

  • Mechanical Neck pain, including Spondylosis, WAD and cervicogenic headaches
  • Shoulder pain, including RCRSP, instability and Shoulder capsulitis
  • Elbow pain, including Ulnar nerve entrapment, medial and lateral epicondylitis,
  • Wrist and Hand pain, including Carpal Tunnel, De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis and Trigger Finger
  • Mechanical Lower back pain, including Sciatica, SIJ and Postural related strain
  • Hip pain, including impingement, labral tear and groin strains
  • Knee pain, including PFPS, meniscal and ligament injuries
  • Ankle and Foot pain, including ligament sprains, Achilles Tendinopathy and Plantar Fasciitis
  • Long term MSK conditions such as Osteoarthritis and Rheumatoid Arthritis
  • Chronic conditions such as Fibromyalgia
  • Older People related conditions such as Osteoporosis, falls and joint replacement surgeries (TKR or THR)

In order to provide effective care, we offer a range management and treatment options, including self management as well Physiotherapy-led interventions to be able to support patients and meet their individual needs. These include:

  • Telephone and face to face triage services in primary care
  • Red flag screening
  • Individual assessment and treatment / rehabilitation for patients with acute injuries
  • Group based rehabilitation and self management for chronic problems and post operative
  • Self management and education advice and literature
  • Safety netting and signposting
  • Reassurance
  • Triage for onward referral including appropriateness for further investigations such as blood test or imaging (x-ray, MRI or US)
  • Home visits for mobility related problems
  • Care Home or Residential Home physiotherapy
  • Falls prevention support, advice and rehabilitation
  • Pre and Post operative Physiotherapy / rehabilitation

It is important that patients see the right professional at the first contact where possible to prevent long term reliance on health professionals.

We liaise with other members of the Primary Care and Multidisciplinary team to ensure patients are assessed and managed holistically.
