Older People Exercise Classes

Older People Exercise Classes

As we grow older it becomes increasingly important to keep active and maintain fitness and health. As part of the normal ageing process, we begin to lose muscle strength and flexibility, which can lead to a loss of mobility, confidence and often an increased risk of falls. These same symptoms can also occur as a result of long-term and neurological conditions including Parkinson’s Disease and Multiple Sclerosis, amongst many others.

Our physiotherapy-led exercise classes are suitable for older adults who are looking to improve their mobility and balance, as well as those who struggle with mobility issues related to long-term conditions. Our classes help to improve overall health levels including mobility and can potentially provide other benefits such as:

  • Improved confidence and mental Health
  • Better balance and strength
  • Boosted energy levels
  • Social engagement
  • Improved cognitive function

Our older people exercise classes involve a combination of low-impact cardiovascular, resistance, balance, and functional exercises. All exercises are modifiable so are appropriate for all levels and you will be supervised by a Chartered Physiotherapist throughout the class.

The motivational classes have been known to boost morale, movement and enjoyment through a fun interactive approach which uses music, objects, and games to fully engage clients and keep them coming back. Physiotherapy-led exercise classes and programmes have also been shown to be effective in reducing falls by 29%!

Physiotherapy Matters can deliver exercise classes in our spacious studio or in the comfort of your nursing or residential home, the classes are suitable for anyone wanting to improve and maintain their physical activity levels and are designed to suit the abilities of all participants.

Our elderly exercise classes are included in our Care Home Wellbeing Packages, if you would like more information about this service or would like to discuss whether this is suitable for you, please call us on 0191 285 8701.
