Work-related Musculoskeletal Disorders

Our Occupational Health physiotherapists are experts in work-related musculoskeletal (MSK) disorders. We provide expert assessment and treatment of a number of conditions including:

  • Work-relevant upper limb disorders (WRULDs), including Carpal Tunnel Syndrome or shoulder ‘impingement’ (also referred to as rotator cuff related shoulder pain)
  • Complex pain conditions including Fibromyalgia
  • Age-related musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) often associated with an aging workforce such as arthritis
  • Neck and lower back pain due to injuries, manual handling or poor posture
  • Repetitive strain injuries (RSIs), including tennis elbow or De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis
  • Prolonged standing and walking in safety shoes leading to conditions such as Plantar Fasciitis
  • Post-operative rehabilitation following surgical procedures including joint replacement (total knee replacement or total hip replacement)
  • Nerve pain leading to Sciatica (leg pain from the lower back) or arm pain from neck
  • Muscle and ligament injuries caused by strains or sprains at work or outside of work but affecting work

Through health promotion activities, symptom management, appropriate return to work planning and working closely with employer representatives and other available teams (including mental health practitioners), our Occupational Health services are able to improve employee wellbeing, ensure legal compliance, reduce sickness absence and improve presenteeism, and help employers plan for the future in reducing the occurrences of work-related MSDs.

In order to provide an effective and efficient service, we offer a wide range of services to support your business both from a employer / line manager and employee prospective. These include:

  • Occupational Health Physiotherapy

  • Wellbeing initiatives such as group exercise classes
  • Risk assessments (including Manual Handling risk assessments)
  • Ergonomic process assessments
  • Workstation / DSE and Workplace / task assessments
  • Manual handling, DSE user and DSE assessor training
  • Telephone based, or face-to-face triage and advice services
  • Individual assessment and treatment of musculoskeletal disorders including return to work planning
  • Work hardening programmes
  • Functional capacity / capability assessments (FCE / FCA)
  • Fitness for work assessments

All of these services can be delivered onsite (client sites) or offsite (at our or our national network of clinic) sites
