Physiotherapy Matters have significant experience in delivering bespoke, high quality training programmes to suit your business needs. The training sessions are a mix of theory and practical and are designed to keep employees engaged while providing them with useful information for improving their health and wellbeing. Some of the training courses we regularly deliver are:

Manual Handling Training

The Manual Handling Training we provide lasts approximately 3-3.5hours and includes:

  • Risks factors associated with manual handling
  • Anatomy of the spine-common conditions associated with manual handling
  • Information on how to manage acute injuries-how to self manage and when to seek help
  • Risk assessment
  • Problem solving any risks identified
  • Correct manual handling training
  • Exercises to minimise risk and increase core strength

The course is part presentation and part practical where we practice correct handling (single lift/teaching/team lifts) and do the exercises.

Spinal Awareness Training

The Spinal Awareness Training session lasts approximately 1 hour 15 minutes and includes:

  • Anatomy of the spine
  • Common conditions
  • Advice on managing injuries
  • Exercises to help minimise the likelihood of suffering back injuries

Work Related Upper Limb Training

This session lasts approximately 1hour 15 and includes:

  • Risk factors for upper limb conditions
  • Relevant anatomy
  • Common conditions
  • Advice on injury management
  • Exercises to help prevent or improve symptoms

DSE User Training

This session is aimed at employees who spend a lot of time working at a computer. The session is 1 hour 15 minutes and includes:

  • The risk factors associated with DSE use
  • Spinal anatomy
  • Common conditions
  • Advice on injury management
  • DSE set up advice
  • Exercises to help minimise DSE associated discomfort

Manual Handling or DSE Assessor Training courses

Our Assessor Training courses teach nominated employees from a business how to carry out safe, effective workplace and ergonomic assessments. The training sessions are usually split over 2 half days but can be carried out in a full day upon request. The sessions include:

  • Background and legislation
  • Anatomy and Common conditions
  • Risks of DSE Use or Manual Handling
  • DSE or Manual Handling Assessment Process
  • Introduction to ergonomics
  • DSE or Manual Handling Assessment practice
  • Further ergonomics
  • Problem solving – finding ergonomic solutions
  • Complications – Looking at home working/laptops/multi screens
  • Report writing

Participants are encouraged to carry out a couple of assessments in between the sessions. Handouts, DSE or Manual Handling assessment template forms and certificates are provided for all Assessor Training courses.

Acute Injury Management

This session lasts approximately 1 hour 15 minutes and includes:

  • Anatomy
  • Common injuries
  • Acute injury management
  • Exercises to prevent common injuries

Exercise Classes

We also offer a range of Physiotherapist Led Exercise Classes which can be run as single taster sessions or as courses and can be delivered at your place of work or at our Gosforth clinic. Some of the available classes include:
