Physiotherapist Led: Strength & Conditioning and Rehabilitation Sessions
At Physiotherapy Matters we offer 1:1 physiotherapist-led rehabilitation services that are designed to improve movement and function and support long-term musculoskeletal health. Our approach is structured, evidence-based and tailored to individual needs.
We support individuals recovering from injuries, managing long-term conditions, preparing for or recovering from surgery, and those looking to improve strength and mobility through supervised exercised based sessions.
Our Approach
All patients undergo a full physiotherapy assessment to assess current ability, contributing factors and individual goals. Rehabilitation sessions are then delivered on a 1:1 basis within our clinic and supervised by one of our physiotherapists who ensures appropriate loading and progression. Rehabilitation is progressed session by session based on clinical presentation and response to treatment.
Treatment may include:
- Physiotherapist-led strength and conditioning
- Return-to-sport rehabilitation
- Pre-operative rehabilitation
- Post-operative rehabilitation
- Injury management and prevention
- Balance, mobility, and functional independence training
Pre- and Post-Operative Rehabilitation
Pre-operative rehabilitation is strongly recommended before orthopaedic surgery, especially hip and knee joint replacement. This is because increasing strength, mobility and cardiovascular fitness can have a positive impact on recovery times and functional outcomes.
Early and structured post-operative physiotherapy is important for improving range of movement, regaining strength and supporting safe recovery. An early physiotherapy assessment also allows us to monitor potential complications. If we identify any issues that might need further investigation or management beyond physiotherapy, with your consent, we will refer you to the appropriate healthcare professional to ensure the best approach to your care.
Gym-Based Rehabilitation and Strength & Conditioning
We offer gym-based rehabilitation and physiotherapy-led strength and conditioning to help support you back to everyday activities. Our treatment approach ensures that the exercise is safe, progressive and supported by clinical knowledge to promote recovery.
This is ideal for:
- Sports injuries
- Post-rehabilitation return to gym or sport
- Injury prevention
- Building strength and confidence
Older Adults: Balance, Mobility and Independence
We also support older adults who want to maintain or regain independence, improve their mobility and reduce the risk of falls. Our goal is to help you stay active, confident, and independent for as long as possible with tailored exercise that matches your ability and goals.
This service focuses on:
- Balance and stability exercises
- Falls prevention
- Strength and functional mobility work
- Walking and gait re-education
- Chair-based or progressive exercise programmes
- Maintaining independence at home and in the community

Your Appointment
All sessions are carried out by one of our experienced Physiotherapists at our Gosforth, Gateshead or Darras Hall clinics. We also offer home visits for those who require treatment in their own home or are unable to travel to one of our clinics.
We recommend a 50-minute initial appointment to fully understand your needs and tailor your treatment. Follow-up sessions are available in 30 or 50-minute options. An early physiotherapy assessment is recommended whether you’re for preparing for surgery, have an injury or concerned about your mobility. The sooner we see you, the better your long-term outcome is likely to be.
