Sinogel Joint Injections: Hyaluronic Acid and Chondroitin Knee Injection
Sinogel injections are used to relieve pain and stiffness in knee joints in individuals how that have mild to moderate osteoarthritis and degenerative knee conditions, but are still wanting to maintain an active lifestyle. Sinogel injections are slightly deferent from other hyaluronic acid injection as it consists of hyaluronic acid and sodium chondroitin.
What are Sinogel injections?
In osteoarthritis the fluid (synovial fluid) that protects the bones by providing cushioning and lubrication in joints becomes thinner and less protective. The loss of fluid can cause stiffness and pain in the affected joint. The ingredients in Sinogel injections are hyaluronic acid (HA) and sodium chondroitin. Both these substances are naturally found in the synovial fluid of joints. Sinogel helps to lubricate and provide cushion the joint and acts as a shock absorber.
What are the Safety and Benefits of Sinogel?
Sinogel is safe to use and can give relief for several months, usually around 6 months but for some as long as 12 months. Potential side effects and risks are all, however, as with any injection you can experience mild pain and temporary swelling at the injection site.
A benefit of Sinogel is that it is safe to be used alongside other medication that you already take as it is not considered a drug and is classified as a medical device.
What can I expect if I decide to a Sinogel injection?
The treatment experience with a Sinogel injection is quick and minimally invasive.
Your physiotherapist will first perform an initial assessment and discuss treatment options. If Sinogel is jointly agreed as the most suitable management option, this is a single injection carried out in clinic, without sedation. Patients are asked to stay for 10-15 mins following the injection to ensure there are no allergic reactions from the injection, which are extremely rare. Additionally, the patient should keep to light activities for 24-48 hours post injection.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
How long does SINOGEL injections last?
Sinogel injections can last for around 6-12 months with peak effect around 8 weeks post injection. Hyaluronic acid and Chondroitin is gradually absorbed by the cartilage (joint surface), and when the pain and / or stiffness start to return a review injection is recommended, usually between 6-12 months dependant on activity levels.
Is this the same as corticosteroids?

Sinogel is a combination of hyaluronic and chondroitin which naturally occurs in the synovial fluids of joints.
Are there any risks or side effects?

SINOGEL is safe to be used alongside other medication that you already take.
