We hope everyone enjoyed a wonderful summer! As we enter into Autumn and the days grow shorter, it’s natural for exercise to take a backseat. However, there are still plenty of opportunities to work out indoors or wrap up warm and enjoy a stroll in nature!
This month brings various awareness campaigns for common conditions, and we have some information that may be beneficial for you!

Allied Health Professions Day
On Saturday, October 14th, we celebrate Allied Health Professions Day, a day dedicated to honoring the individuals working in various roles within the health sector.This year’s theme focuses on quality and safety, emphasising the vital importance of delivering outstanding care.
It’s a time to recognise the tireless efforts of those who often work behind the scenes but whose contributions are indispensable to patient care and well-being.
As we celebrate Allied Health Professions Day, let’s take a moment to express our gratitude , Their expertise not only aids in recovery but also empowers patients with the knowledge and tools they need to lead healthier, more fulfilling lives.

Back Care Awareness Week
Back Care Awareness Week will take place from October 2 to October 8, 2024.
This event is designed to raise awareness and offer education on the prevention and management of back problems.

Golf at Physiotherapy Matters
At Physiotherapy Matters, we offer specialised golf services designed to enhance your performance and keep you in top form. Our golf strength and conditioning class focuses on building the essential muscles and flexibility needed for an optimal golf swing, helping to prevent injuries and improve your game. This class runs every Tuesday at 3pm.
Additionally, our 1:1 golf screening assessment offers personalised evaluations and tailored exercise plans to address individual needs. This could involve enhancing stability during the golf swing, improving joint mobility, or boosting muscle power to increase clubhead speed and distance off the tee!

Exercise of the Month

Dips
This exercise is a great choice if you are wanting to build upper body strength and muscle.
You can use dip parallel bars or if you do not have any , using a bench or steps can be a good alternative.
To perform a dip using a bench or steps :
1. Get into position with the bench/steps behind you. Place your feet flat on the floor , bend your knees at a 90 degree angle.
2. Tighten your core , keep your body straight and lower your body towards the floor , until your elbows are at a 90 degree angle.
3. Push yourself back up to the starting position.
To perform a dip using parallel bars :
1. Get into position by placing your hand on the parallel bars , you’ll need to lift yourself onto the bars. Push yourself up onto the bars until you can straighten out your arms.
2. Lower your body down , tighten your core and keep your body straight , until your elbows are at a 90 degree angle.
3. Push yourself back to the starting position.
Repeat for the desired number of reps. Increase reps and sets to make it more challenging!
