Clinical Specialist Appointments

March 16, 2015

Here at Physiotherapy Matters we understand the frustration that can come from an injury that you are struggling to get successfully treated.

If you are suffering from a condition that is resistant to current treatments or your condition is presenting in a complex manner that is difficult to diagnose then an appointment with our Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist, Iain Loughran, is recommended. He is available for second opinions and treats conditions that have appeared to be untreatable to date.

Iain is a highly experienced specialist Physiotherapist who specialises in:

  • complex and chronic musculoskeletal conditions
  • multiple conditions presenting simultaneously
  • conditions that have resisted treatment to date
  • conditions that require injection therapy

He treats a range of musculoskeletal conditions and injuries with rehabilitation programmes, manual and manipulative therapy, acupuncture, and steroid injections where required.  He has experience in a range of settings including NHS (both primary care and hospital services), Occupational Health (Northumbria Police), and sports injuries.  Iain has recently qualified as an Independent Prescriber and is also currently studying for a Ph.D. in Physiotherapy at Northumbria University.

Iain qualified from Teesside University in 2002 with a B.Sc. (Hons) in Physiotherapy and subsequently worked at North Tees and Hartlepool Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.  Initially this involved rotational posts through a range of specialities, followed by more senior roles in specific musculoskeletal and rehabilitation based rotations.   In 2007 he moved to The Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (formerly Newcastle Primary Care Trust) to take up a senior musculoskeletal physiotherapy role, followed by a clinical specialist role.  During this time he competed an M.Sc. in Orthopedic Medicine (including injection therapy).  Iain also currently works at South Tyneside Foundation NHS Trust as Lead Extended Scope Physiotherapist.  This role involves managing more complex musculoskeletal conditions which often require further investigations (such as x-rays, MRI, USS, and bloods tests) and more specialist treatments (such as steroid injections).

Appointments are available with Iain for:

  • Injection Therapy
  • Medication Management (including prescribing)
  • Complex case management

No matter whether your condition was caused by a sport, work accident or otherwise, we welcome the chance to serve you.
